First Class Products was set up in February 2007 by Tom Ellis. Tom Ellis is 19 years of age and started his business to generate funds to support his time at Exeter University. Tom's inspiration for starting his business initially came from his father who ran his own business, and it’s always something he’s wanted to do. Tom studied at St Edwards School, Oxford and finished in the Summer of 2007 and is now reading geography at the University of Exeter.
First Class Products began by selling Slazenger tennis balls in bulk to individuals with tennis courts and to schools and clubs. However, as the tennis season came to an end in September 2007, Tom needed a new product to market and sell. The answer came when a family friend brought some Leroux-Mineau Champagne from France. After some initial research First Class Products began negotiations with the vineyard, which had never exported to the UK before and in October 2007 First Class Products became the exclusive UK importer for Leroux-Mineau Champagne.

Most students who are a little short of cash turn to a part time job in the local bar to help fill the coffers. Not Tom Ellis! He decided to start his own company. Combining his love of tennis and his entrepreneurial aspirations he spotted a gap in the market and set to work supplying tennis balls on-line at much lower RRP than the shops.
Whilst in his final A Level year Tom successfully set up First Class Products and started to bulk sell tennis balls in the Oxfordshire region. He has done everything from sourcing the best suppliers to developing his website. Within his limited financial means he devised some clever marketing plans. This includes going on to googlearth to pin point all the local tennis courts, door dropping leaflets and supplying major schools and clubs for their tennis seasons. He even managed to twist the Warden’s arm at St Edwards School to let him send leaflets to all the parents!
In October 2007 Tom began importing Leroux-Mineau Champagne and is now the exclusive importer within the UK. He has great plans for his company - whilst at University - and intends to develop his West Country client base as well as looking into expanding the Leroux-Mineau Champagne product range.
